I had a stroke 18 months before coming to Bridge 4. The stroke caused weakness in my right side, but my whole body felt weak. I felt very low in mood and demotivated; I could not stand and required a hoist to get out of bed. After spending 3 months in hospital and then a limited amount of rehab at home no further progress was made, and I was told that nothing more could be done. I couldn’t even sit straight in my chair, my family always trying to correct me and pushing me back to the middle!

However since coming to Bridge 4 Rehab I am continually making progress. Now I can stand up and transfer into my chair with a rotunda, so much so that the hoist has been got rid of at home! This has enabled me to go out with my family and to access the local community again.

The enthusiasm of the staff and variety of equipment has been brilliant to allow these progressions and it has been such a good experience. I look forward to coming every week, as it is such a positive environment and I have such fun whilst they are putting me through my paces.

I am more motivated, happier and now don’t get nagged constantly for leaning out the side of my chair!
